Guy Noble is well-known to Australian audiences as a conductor, host, pianist, writer and broadcaster. He studied at the Sydney Conservatorium and then in London with the renowned Australian accompanist Geoffrey Parsons. He has conducted all the major orchestras in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Malaysia, in repertoire from classical and opera to tours with Harry Connick Jr and Randy Newman. He was an announcer on BBC Radio 3 and hosted Breakfast on ABC Classic from 1999-2001. He hosted and conducted the Queensland Symphony’s Music on Sunday series for 18 years, Adelaide’s Classics Unwrapped series for 5 years and Great Opera Hits with Opera Australia in the Joan Sutherland Theatre at the Sydney Opera House for 10 years and 400 performances. He wrote the The Classical Music Explorer for ABC Books, two volumes of Word of The Day for Penguin Books and has had his own column in Limelight Magazine for over 15 years.
Guy loves to combine humour and music. He has cooked on stage with Maggie Beer and Simon Bryant, sang Rossini’s Cats Duet with Korean soprano Sumi Jo, and appeared on stage as Darth Vader with the Sydney Symphony. In 2024 he premieres a brand-new solo show at the piano – Guy Noble’s Very Serious Guide to Classical Music and a new musical he has written for children – The Grumpy Princess (Riverside Theatres, Parramatta).
Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart is a 4-star hotel located on the busy, picturesque Hobart waterfront just a short walk from popular attractions such as Salamanca Place and the Markets, Battery Point, the Mona Ferry and the CBD. 1ST OF 3 NIGHTS AT HOTEL GRAND CHANCELLOR HOBART
ARRIVE HOBART AND EPSOM COUNTRY HOUSE WEEKEND MUSIC FESTIVAL (Canapés):
Guests arrive at Hotel Grand Chancellor, which overlooks the picturesque Hobart waterfront and offers convenient access to the best landmarks and attractions in Hobart. Check-in is at 3:00pm and we recommend arriving at this time.
We meet at 3:30pm for welcome drinks to meet our Tour Leader and fellow guests. This is followed by a talk by Guy Noble about the music we will hear this evening.
At 5:00pm we depart the hotel and travel by private coach to Epsom House in nearby Pontville. On arrival we enjoy champagne, canapés and quiche in Epsom House’s beautiful conservatory. This is followed by an Introduction to the Festival by Festival host, Christopher Lawrence. We then attend our first concert in the festival with a delightful interval break where we enjoy coffee and dessert.

All concerts will be held in the exquisitely restored Georgian Ballroom. Concerts in the Ballroom are part of a tradition stretching back more than 150 years. On 7 December 1853 The Courier reported: ‘The Nelson family gave one of their musical entertainments at the Tasmanian Inn, Pontville (now Epsom House), on Monday evening. The inhabitants of the district mustered in strong force, and were so highly delighted that a general request to repeat it will be complied with at an early period.’
After the concert we return by private coach to our hotel in Hobart.
2ND OF 3 NIGHTS AT HOTEL GRAND CHANCELLOR HOBART
EPSOM COUNTRY HOUSE WEEKEND MUSIC FESTIVAL (B, D):
This morning Guy will give a talk about the music we will hear in today’s concerts.
Following our talk, the late morning is free. You might like to make the most of the hotel’s location and our free Saturday morning by exploring this popular district of Hobart. One very enjoyable activity could be to visit Salamanca Market, Tasmania’s most popular attraction. Situated near Hobart’s picturesque waterfront, this lively outdoor market is held only on Saturdays when more than 300 stalls appear, selling arts, crafts, jewellery, fresh food and produce, collectables and homewares.
At 1:30pm we will depart the hotel and travel by private coach to Epsom House. On arrival we will attend a ‘Conversation’ with Christopher Lawrence and one of the musicians in the festival. This will be followed by our second concert in the festival. During the interval we will enjoy coffee and cake.

Following the concert there will be pre-dinner drinks in Epsom House’s delightful garden before we move to the picturesque courtyard for dinner. After our delicious dinner we will attend the third concert in the festival. Once again, there will be an interval break to enjoy coffee and dessert.

This morning will begin with Guy’s talk about the music we will hear in today’s concerts. Following the talk, we depart for Epsom House and our third and final day of the festival.
On arrival we attend the fourth concert in the festival.

After the concert we have a late buffet lunch where we are joined by the festival musicians. Our long lunch continues into the afternoon and includes wine and cheese and fruit platters. In the early evening we depart Epsom House and return to our hotel.
On our return we enjoy farewell drinks to round off our delightful weekend!
