We depart the hotel and travel by private coach to Hobart’s Government House where the Entrance Hall, Main Hallway and State Rooms, together with their furniture, are unequalled in Australia. One of the building’s finest rooms is the ornate Grand Ballroom, with its splendid Huon pine floor, the decorative vaulted ceiling and three magnificent chandeliers. The three large mirrors on the dais were the largest in the southern hemisphere when installed. It is in this beautiful and historic Grand Ballroom that we attend our first concert of the festival at 6:00pm. Before the concert, we gather for a welcome drink, organised by the festival.

3RD OF 3 NIGHTS AT HOTEL GRAND CHANCELLOR HOBART
TASMANIAN CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL:
This morning begins with a talk by Jack Stephens about the music we will hear in the festival’s final concert.
Following the talk, we depart by private coach for St Luke’s Anglican Church (1836) in historic Richmond. St Luke’s is the oldest intact church in Tasmania. The design by colonial architect John Lee Archer has changed little in its external appearance. The description of the church in an article written by the rector of St Luke’s, Rev. C. Allen, and published in the Hobart Mercury in 1909, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the laying of its foundation stone, still applies today.
‘ … St Luke's Church, Richmond, stands practically the same to-day as when it was first erected….The men and women of the early days would have no difficulty in recognising the church to which they bent their steps from Sunday to Sunday. The same square, stern, massive building has watched the convicts march past in their clanking irons, has kept guard over the busy township in the days of its prosperous activity, and to-day stands sentinel over the quiet village that Richmond has now become’.
St Luke’s Anglican Church is the venue of the festival finale, a performance of Schubert’s glorious String Quintet.
CONCERT V - ST LUKE’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, RICHMOND, 11:00am
Beethoven String Trio in C minor, Op. 9, No. 3
Schubert String Quintet in C major, D.956

Meagan Turner viola (Alma Moodie Quartet)
Thomas Marlin cello (Alma Moodie Quartet)

String Theorem
Following our final concert, we travel by private coach to the festival’s traditional farewell lunch. This is at the renowned Frogmore Creek Wines Cellar Door and Restaurant, with panoramic views over the pastoral landscape of the Coal River Valley.
After lunch, we return to Hobart by private coach and gather together to enjoy farewell drinks on the picturesque Hobart waterfront to round off our delightful weekend!

Following our final breakfast at the hotel, the tour concludes.
